DNA Donations

DNA and its associated information (Links to sample sheet with the appropriate and associated documentation) can be incorporated into the DNA Bank Network free of charge – for the benefit of the scientific community and to guarantee verifiability of results based on them. A list of contact persons responsible for individual groups of organisms will you find here.

Individual samples with the respective voucher are welcome for donation, as well as multiple samples per population and location if at least one voucher specimen per population has been collected.

It must be certified that the organismal material was obtained in compliance with the rules of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The donor of the DNA will be acknowledged in the database but transfers all property rights to the DNA Bank Network. It is possible to block the release of donated DNA for periods of two years, i.e. DNA will be incorporated into the DNA bank and will be stored under optimal conditions, associated data will be kept in the associated database; however, both will only be online available once the restriction period has expired.

Donations can either be DNA extracts or silica dried or alcohol preserved material.

For DNA extractions the following criteria should be met for donation:

DNA concentration >50 ng/µl (if possible),
Sample volume >10 µl (equal to 500 ng in total).
