DNA Ordering
AvailabilityDNA samples are available from the different
network partners dependent on the different groups of organisms to be
selected here. At cost
on-demand extraction of DNA will be carried out, if no suitable DNA
samples are available, dependent on the availability of source material
in suitable condition at the network institutions or if material with
full documentation is made available (please
enquire). |
Quality
The stored DNA material derives either from molecular research work
performed at the network partners or from donations by researchers at
other institutions. In general the DNA is well suited for PCR-based
amplifications. Information about DNA quality and concentration is
online available in the associated database. It has to be taken into
account that DNA amounts vary, depending on source materials and
extraction methods; therefore, DNA quality cannot be guaranteed. The
samples are stored at –80°C and are cleaned to such an extent that they
are stable at ambient temperatures during transfer. |
Documentation
Associated database information for each sample includes the scientific
name, the name under which sequences are published (if different),
collector, collecting locality and date, time and method of DNA
extraction as well as DNA quality before storage. Only accessions for
which vouchers exist are kept in store, and digital images of each
voucher (irrespective of its location) are available for online
consultation.
|
Costs
DNA samples are available at prime cost (to cover extraction, storage,
documentation, handling and shipping), exclusively for scientific and
educational purposes. In general, aliquots of 25 µl are sent. |
Legal rights
Results obtained from the analysis of the material must not be used to
engender commercial profit without prior written permission from the
network partners. This, however, will not be granted unless equitable
benefit sharing with the countries of origin, under the terms and in the
spirit of the Convention on Biological Diversity
(CBD), is secured. DNA passed
on to third parties must be dealt with to the same conditions.By
ordering DNA from one of the partners of the DNA Bank Network, the
recipient accepts and pledges to respect the above conditions.
A signed copy of the
Agreement on the supply of DNA material, must accompany the order. |
